BIOGRAPHY

Catherina Pearls (Ciska Verkerk), born in 1994 in Culemborg, the Netherlands, creates from trauma, from the loss of her voice, and from the unbearable complexity of human emotion. When language failed, image became her weapon and her survival. Art was never a luxury it was necessity. In a trance driven states she constructs monumental labyrinths in which light does not gently meet darkness, but collides with it.

 

Her work tears open the fragmentation of identity: the splitting, the silence, the violence of being forced inward. Fear, rage, grief, longing, resilience, nothing is softened
