Catherina Pearls (Ciska Verkerk, b. 1994) creates immersive artworks from the depths of trauma, memory, and the fragmented landscapes of the mind.Shaped by a traumatic childhood and living with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), she transforms inner worlds into monumental installations and labyrinthine environments.
Working in intense, trance-like periods, often directly on the floor, Pearls creates from an urgent need to give form to experiences beyond words. Her work explores fragmentation, resilience, fear, grief, and endurance, where beauty and darkness exist side by side.
Through her immersive compositions, Pearls invites viewers into spaces where memory, imagination, and identity dissolve, offering powerful visual narratives about survival, transformation, and the human capacity to create meaning from fragmentation.
